Buying a Home in Italy

Italy is a country rich with history and culture, this is very much present in it’s 20 different regions stretching from north to south. The culture from one region to another differs enormously and this can be reflected in the different accents, local traditions and gastronomic delights. Each town in each region has it’s own local customs, dishes, regional wines and religious festivals.

Lombardy is the richest and most developed region in Italy offering endless possibilities when seeking real estate. There are mountains, lakes, and cultural cities with medieval towns, home to artists such as Caravaggio and composers such as Donizetti . The lake regions include Lake Maggiore, Lake Como, Lake Garda and Lake Iseo.  Milan is the capital of the region well renowned for it’s fashion, football and for being the financial pulse of the region. About 50kms north from Milan is the city of Bergamo, one of the prettiest cities in northern italy offering mountains, lakes and beautiful medieval towns and very easily accessibile with its international airport just a 5 minute drive from the city centre.

Ligure is to the north west of Italy close to the neighbouring French Riviera...this region offers coastline, mountains and very antique sea side cities such as Genova.  It’s more renowned cities with no shortage of VIP’s is Portofino, Rapallo and Santa Margherita Ligure.  A region also renowned for its flowers and annual festival of San Remo.

Sardinia a beautiful mediteranean island offering spectacular coastlines a real haven for those of you seeking peace and tranquiilty. The island offers beautiful long white beaches, amazing gorges and rock formation, and  intimate coves – many accessibile only by foot or boat. Offering an abbundance of activities for those of you who love to practice water sports and a boaters paradise. Sardinia is easily accessibile using one of its four international airports as well as many connections by ferry from the mainland.

Veneto:  or should I say more precisely Verona, the  home to Shakespeare’s most famous characters, Romeo and Juliet, coupled with the world’s most romantic and charming city of Venice are just two of the most beautiful cities in this region. This region offers many characteristic 15th and 16th century buildings which immortalise the historic value of this region, together with its many attractions and gastronomic delights.
Lake Garda for example is set in two different regions, Brescia which is part of Lombardy and Peschiera which is part of  Veneto. Many visitors flock to these regions year after year to see such attractions as the Open air opera in the Roman Arena of Verona, or the Carnival in February in Venice, two events that must be experienced in a life time.
